Ipsy Time! August: Prep School

ipaugust

This was a good bag.  I will use all the things I received this month, and I got lots of fun extras.  The bag is vinyl on the outside with an embossed surface and hounds-tooth print.  The inside is the ipsy standard pink fabric lining.  A really sturdy bag with plenty of room for pencils.  The bag alone gets a 5 this month.

OFRA Cosmetics Lip Liner(color: Wine) – $13.00 My prediction was pretty spot on with this one.  It wasn’t the best quality right out of the bag.  I needed a lighter to heat the tip.  Otherwise it was so dry it felt like I was dragging a crayon across my lip.  It doesn’t give a very sharp line, and the color is a perfect match for the splotchiness at the edge of my lip, so I paired it with my Chella highlighter to clean up the line.  The up side to that is I know it’s a good color for me, because it’s such a close match for colors already on my face without makeup. 3 out of 5.

Lined and filled with OFRA pencil, touched up with tarte lip gloss.

JUARA Skincare Turmeric Antioxidant Radiance Facial Mask: full-size $35, ipsy sample $3.50 Good guess on this one also.  It’s hard for a mask to get a bad score with me unless it gives me some kind of reaction (okay, that was one time, but it was enough to leave me wary of new masks). This didn’t have a strong smell or yellow tint like I assumed it would, so it didn’t leave my skin stained.  I don’t think it did much pore minimizing, but my skin felt very fresh afterward.  4 out of 5.

I promise there’s not enough turmeric in this mask to stain your skin. In fact, you can hardly see it while it’s on.

tarte Deluxe LipSurgence™ Skintuitive Lip Gloss in Energy: full-size $19, ipsy sample $3.52 I enjoy this lip gloss.  The gimmick here is the pH color change, but from what I’ve heard, it just turns the same color on everyone.  Either way, it warmed to a nice blue-pink on my lips.  It has a great feel and has the same softness duration as the chapstick I wear in the evenings. 4 out of 5.

Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco Oil Treatment: full-size $7.99, ispy sample $3.31 This smells awesome!  My hair is so soft and shiny from this.  It goes feel very oily when you put it on, but even damp hair straight from the shower soaks up the argan oil, so your hair doesn’t look greasy.  Marc Anthony makes some great hair stuff. 5 out of 5.

Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eye Liner Pen$19.00 It’s everything I hoped it would be.  You can achieve a fine line or a broad stroke, it has excellent flow and even consistency.  The color isn’t blackest black, but it’s black enough for most styles.  It resists rubbing off, but wipes off clean with a makeup wipe.  I love this pen.  I got the gel pencil in a previous bag and hoped for this sort of result, but it let me down.  This pen wins, 5 out of 5.

Total estimated value: $42.33

Overall Score: 4.3 You may want to check my previous reviews, but I really think this is the highest score I’ve given.

I cashed in a ton of points this month.  I’ve been thinking of trying other subs once I’ve been with ipsy for a full year (thru October), but depending on the price of the sub I may not be able to keep my ipsy sub.  I wanted to be sure I got the most use out of my reward points before that time.  Here are my extras for this month’s bag.
